What is does DEC mean/stand for?

  2. W. Zevon says:

An option is the right to buy or sell a stock at a certain price before a certain date.
DEC stands for December indicating the option contract expires in December.

Expiration happens on the 3rd Friday of each month which is this Friday. An option contract loses value over time if the stock does not approach the strike price so a good practice is to clean your portfolio of out of the money (OTM) contracts before they expire worthless.
